Jiawood Private Classes
an exploration in the art of Cabinet-Making
At Jiawood, we offer a one-month intensive woodworking workshop focused on traditional cabinet-making with hand tools, fully tailored to each student’s individual goals and project interests.
Customized Learning
The course content, pace, and final project are tailored to your interests, goals, and skill level. While the default structure centers around building a cabinet, the final piece you make is chosen based on what you want to create. Whether it’s a cabinet, a box, or something else within the scope of what we make at Jiawood, we’ll guide you through the process, from concept to completion.
Flexible Scheduling
Workshop dates are not fixed. They are arranged by request, depending on your availability and ours. We’ll work together to find a time that suits both you and the workshop schedule.
Our Approach
You’ll not only build a piece of furniture—you’ll also explore the design philosophy we follow at Jiawood, which emphasizes harmony between material, natural forms, and function.
Working with hand tools is more than just woodworking, it’s a practice in understanding. Each type of wood responds differently, and using hand tools teaches you to notice, adapt, and respect those differences. You’ll also learn to care for the tools themselves: sharpening, tuning, and handling them with precision. These skills build patience, focus, and confidence—and allow you to create fine joinery without relying on machines.
More Than Just Skills
This workshop is also about personal growth. As you work with your hands and focus on detail, you’ll develop qualities like present mindedness, discipline, and a deep appreciation for natural beauty. We believe a good woodworker learns to balance the spirit of the wood, the spirit of the tool, and the spirit of the craftsperson. When those align, the process becomes deeply meaningful—and the results speak for themselves.
